Disney's Clay Pops Out With Fresh Animation

Could this be the first step towards a new era of CGI claymation?

Disney has unveiled an exciting new animated film, Clay, set for release in 2028. Directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn, known for her work on Frozen and Moana, the movie promises a departure from traditional Disney aesthetics, focusing instead on a ball of clay named Mushy, with Kieran Culkin lending his voice as Flip, its reluctant mentor.

The idea is to break away from the long-established tradition of infallible mentors in animated films, creating an unconventional and chaotic adventure. Early concept art has garnered mixed reactions, with some likening it to the Rayman video game series.

Jared Bush, Disney's chief creative officer, claims that while Clay will use CGI, the end result should resemble traditional claymation as closely as possible. However, critics argue that this might be a missed opportunity for true innovation, suggesting a collaboration with Aardman Animations could have been more daring.

As the world eagerly awaits more details and visuals, Clay stands out as a potential game-changer in Disney's animation portfolio. Will it live up to its promise? Only time will tell.
