From a global sea of 3,987 entries, four photographers have emerged as the cream of the crop in this year's Winston Taylor Photo Portrait Prize. The shortlisted images range from intimate encounters with subjects locked in mutual gaze to candid shots on bustling city streets and sprawling rural landscapes.

The competition is open to professionals and amateurs alike, aiming to showcase some of the finest photographic portraits of our time. The winner will not only receive a substantial £15,000 but also have their work added to the esteemed collection of London’s National Portrait Gallery. In addition, an exhibition featuring the best submissions will run from November 5 to January 17, and the winner will be crowned on November 3.

The shortlisted images include Max Pattenden's tender 'Havannah, Lee Moor,' James Clifford Kent’s evocative 'Neisser, Pinar del Río, Cuba,' Marcie Docherty’s enigmatic 'PE,' and Katie Hitchcock-Smith’s atmospheric 'Moroccan (Amazigh) Cowboys.' These works promise to push the boundaries of photographic portraiture.
