Neko Health, co-founded by Spotify’s David Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, has landed in New York with a hefty $1 billion valuation and a global waitlist of over 300,000. The company’s advanced body scan promises to screen for issues in the blood, skin, and metabolism, charging $500 for a one-hour session. Venture capitalist Farooq Abbasi of Preface Ventures sees Neko Health as a potential game-changer, with the hope that preventative care could become cheaper and more accessible in the US.
The current model includes a mix of blood tests and computer vision, with Abbasi noting significant improvements since his first scan. He believes Neko Health offers “actionable insights” to improve people’s lives, but acknowledges the company still has a long way to go in terms of scaling and regulatory approval.
Despite the challenges, Abbasi remains optimistic, seeing potential for increased venture funding in companies like Neko Health, which he hopes will help fix issues in the US healthcare system. The success of Neko Health and similar ventures could herald a new era of preventative medicine, but only time will tell if they can truly transform the landscape.
