For years, Whoop has been the go-to gadget for elite athletes like LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, founder Will Ahmed wants it on your arm too, not just to boost performance, but to save lives.
The company’s latest move is to turn its fitness tracker into a 24/7 health monitor that can alert wearers of impending heart attacks, marking a bold step beyond the typical post-workout routine.
Whoop has already launched medically cleared features such as ECG monitoring and atrial fibrillation detection. It’s also partnering with Quest Diagnostics for blood testing, making it the first wearable to offer detailed blood biomarkers directly into its app.
The challenge lies in convincing a broader audience that they need this kind of tech in their lives. While Whoop has seen impressive growth among high-performing professionals and athletes, it remains predominantly male and skewed towards North American markets.
As the line between health monitoring and fashion blurs — with the device now hidden away inside clothing — one can only wonder if a future where everyone wears a health tracker is closer than we think.
