Fitbit's farewell: Google Health arrives, and users aren’t thrilled

Google’s new AI coach is a step too far for many old-school fitness enthusiasts.

The Fitbit app has been replaced by Google Health, but user feedback is overwhelmingly negative. Many are missing the simplicity of their previous experience.

One Reddit post highlights the issue: 'I can’t even completely fill up my home screen; they only have 2 large tiles available and I can’t just scroll down to see everything.' The main page now features recent activity updates and AI health coaching notes, which some find intrusive. For instance, Richard Lawler’s senior editor received unwanted advice on today's plans.

While not all users are upset, some have found the AI helpful for workouts and sleep logs. However, others are frustrated with the new interface, describing it as 'something an 8 year old would make' and 'a total time drain.' A user complained: 'Why must I now scroll through paragraphs of AI slop on every tab before I can actually see my activities and data?'

Google’s sample image showed a version with an AI chat window that didn’t appear for everyone. There's no straightforward way to remove the Ask Coach / activity window, but users can disable it within the app's privacy settings.

The transition has left many confused and nostalgic for what worked before. Google Health doesn't yet support third-party wearables like the Nothing Watch Pro 3, which could complicate matters further for tech-savvy users.
