The co-inventor of Apple’s FaceID and Vision Pro technology has founded a new venture that aims to change the way we diagnose brain disorders using artificial intelligence. Gidi Littwin and his startup Hemispheric have raised $52 million in funding after collecting data from 100,000 people's brains over six years.
Their deep-learning models can now analyze electrical activity in the brain without the need for invasive procedures. This could revolutionize how doctors diagnose conditions like depression and Alzheimer’s, relying on a lightweight EEG headset that measures brain activity during a quick app interaction.
While Littwin envisions a future where brain scans become as routine as blood tests, there are ethical concerns about collecting vast amounts of personal data without complete transparency. As AI giants expand into healthcare, Hemispheric faces stiff competition and must navigate complex regulatory hurdles to bring their product to market.
