Ema, a startup that uses teams of AI agents to automate corporate processes, has raised $77 million to expand its market. Founded by former Google and Coinbase executives, Ema deploys technology called 'AI employees' to coordinate multiple AI agents, reducing reliance on traditional software.
The funding round, led by Creaegis, brings the startup's total valuation to over $140 million. Ema's approach is gaining traction, with over 1 million active enterprise users and a net dollar retention rate of 180%.
As major AI companies push into the enterprise market, Ema stands out by drawing on over 150 models, focusing on domain knowledge and integrations. The startup has expanded beyond its initial use case, with over 90% of customers deploying the technology across multiple workflows.
Ema aims to expand into new markets, particularly in Asia-Pacific, South America, and parts of the Middle East, while maintaining high gross margins of almost 80%. The company does not charge customers based on software seats or AI tokens but on task completion and business outcomes.
Chatterjee sees AI not as a replacement for human workers but as a tool to make them more efficient, with a predicted reduction in reliance on traditional software products. As AI continues to compete for enterprise spending, Ema is well-positioned to capture a significant share of this market.
