At today’s Windows and Surface event, Microsoft showcased a significant enhancement to its Copilot AI system, allowing it access to local files on your PC and the capability to perform actions across the operating system. This upgrade is part of Microsoft’s vision for 'Hybrid Intelligence', where applications integrate a blend of local and cloud-based AI models to optimise task execution.
To demonstrate how Hybrid Intelligence functions, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President, Jacob Andreou, demonstrated using Autopilot to assist with tax filing. By asking the AI to retrieve documents from various folders, rename them, zip them, and draft an email, Autopilot seamlessly navigated the task, showcasing the potential of AI in streamlining everyday activities.
According to Andreou, features powered by Hybrid Intelligence will roll out over the next couple of months. Meanwhile, Microsoft unveiled a new search experience in Windows 11, enabling users to perform quick actions such as toggling dark mode or adjusting microphone volume directly from the search bar, starting this fall on Windows 11 PCs.
As these technologies evolve, the line between human and machine collaboration becomes increasingly blurred. Will your PC soon act as a versatile tool, or could this lead to a new era of digital assistance that makes your life easier?
