Codex 2.0: Work Smarter, Not Harder

As AI integrates into our lives, will we still need to work or just supervise?

A new version of OpenAI’s Codex desktop app is now available, boasting a range of exciting features designed to make your computer a more versatile tool. The most intriguing addition is the ability for Codex to perform tasks on your PC in the background without interfering with your active work. This means developers can iterate on frontend changes and test apps seamlessly, all while you continue your work.

Furthermore, Codex can now schedule work hours, days or even weeks in advance, waking itself up to complete these tasks at the appointed time. This feature opens up possibilities for more efficient project management and automation of repetitive tasks. The update also includes an in-app web browser, enabling users to provide feedback on web experiences directly within the app, streamlining the design and development process.

Additionally, Codex now leverages gpt-image-1.5 to generate images, enhancing its capabilities for creating mockups and visual content. These updates lay a foundation for what OpenAI calls their ‘super app’, potentially redefining how we interact with technology in our workspaces. As AI evolves, the lines between human and machine collaboration will continue to blur.
