Meta cuts jobs, fuels AI

As the tech giant reallocates resources, will we see a smarter future—or just fewer humans in it?

Meta is laying off hundreds of employees across its company, including those on Reality Labs and social media teams. spokesperson Tracy Clayton says they’re restructuring to stay competitive but doesn’t specify how many roles are affected.

The layoffs come as Meta pours billions into AI development, distancing itself from the 'metaverse' it once championed. Recent moves include shutting down VR studios and halting new content for its fitness app Supernatural.

With over 79,000 employees as of December 2025, this round of cuts reflects a strategic realignment towards AI while maintaining the company's massive spending on data centers and infrastructure. The future may involve fewer humans in tech giant offices but possibly more behind screens—or so it seems.
