Whispering Offices: The Future Is Speaking

Are we turning our workspaces into giant echo chambers, or just shy whisperers?

How will office etiquette evolve as we increasingly dictate to our technology? According to a recent feature in the Wall Street Journal, dictation apps like Wispr are gaining traction, especially when paired with vibe coding tools. One venture capitalist noted that visiting startup offices now feels akin to stepping into a high-end call center, while Gusto co-founder Edward Kim predicts that future offices will sound 'more like a sales floor.'

Kim confessed that he only types when absolutely necessary and admitted that constant dictating can be slightly awkward. AI entrepreneur Mollie Amkraut Mueller echoed this sentiment, noting that her husband became annoyed with her new habit of whispering to her computer for late-night work sessions, leading them to now sit apart or work in separate offices.

Despite these challenges, Wispr founder Tanay Kothari is optimistic. He believes that this will eventually become as normal as staring at our phones. But will we be trading our keyboards for microphones—or just avoiding awkward whispers?
