Microsoft has refreshed its productivity-focused assistant, Microsoft 365 Copilot, with a sleeker design that loads twice as fast. The update introduces ‘progressive disclosure,’ where Copilot presents relevant tools and controls based on your prompt, rather than overwhelming you with options upfront.
The new design is rolling out across desktop and mobile devices, making it easier to format text directly within the assistant's upgraded prompt box. This feature allows the box to expand as needed, accommodating more detailed inputs or pastes.
In a move reminiscent of Google Gemini’s recent update, Microsoft has enhanced Copilot to provide more structured responses that are easier to scan and understand. Inside Microsoft 365 apps, users can now access Copilot through a side panel where it offers assistance with questions or document edits, or even opens a chat window from within a paragraph, spreadsheet cell, or slide.
This redesign is part of a broader trend towards more intuitive AI assistants in productivity tools. As these technologies become more refined, they not only enhance user experience but also raise interesting questions about the future of human-AI collaboration and the digital workplace.
