Lucid Motors is laying off 1,500 employees, or around 18% of its workforce, just four months after a previous round of cuts. The move comes as the new CEO Silvio Napoli looks to simplify operations and make Lucid more competitive.
The company has also eliminated the second shift at its Arizona factory and the chief operating officer position. Lay-offs are part of aligning production with anticipated demand, generating $158 million in annual savings. Lucid is pushing ahead with launching its first mass-market vehicle, the Lucid Cosmos SUV, later this year.
The cuts follow a turbulent period for Lucid, seeing over a dozen top executives leave the company in the last two years. As it continues to work on becoming a major player in autonomous vehicles and strives towards profitability, the latest round of layoffs is another step in repositioning itself for success.
