Synthesia’s AI shifts focus to interactive coaching

Is AI about to become a personal trainer for corporate skills?

For years, Synthesia has been using artificial intelligence to create animated training videos at a fraction of the cost. Now, they are launching Roleplay Sessions, an interactive platform that simulates high-stakes conversations with AI avatars, scoring employees against predefined rubrics.

The new product aims to address a gap in corporate training: while videos may inform and demonstrate, true learning often requires practice and feedback. This shift could mark the next phase of enterprise AI adoption, moving beyond flashy demos to measurable outcomes.

“From a managerial perspective, we’re seeing huge interest in mapping out talent within companies,” said Victor Riparbelli, CEO of Synthesia. The company's early customers include some of the world’s largest corporations and recruitment firms, with programs focusing on sales pitches and difficult conversations.

The technology behind the avatars is proprietary, but the reasoning intelligence comes from OpenAI. By adding a layer of analytics, Synthesia positions itself as a performance-management platform, rather than just an avatar company.

As inference costs continue to fall, Synthesia aims to expand Roleplay beyond enterprises into small businesses and educational institutions in the coming months. The goal is clear: prove AI can deliver tangible benefits for corporate development.
