New AI Lab Aims to Automate Office Tasks

As more startups dive into AI, Prentis seeks a slice of the pie by automating daily office workflows.

Prentis, a new AI research lab co-founded by Reid Hoffman and Mark Pincus, has ambitions to revolutionise how office workers manage their tasks. The startup aims to develop AI agents that can automate routine workflows, from insurance claims to customs duty refunds, with a focus on real-world application.

Launched in April, Prentis is already signed up several high-profile clients worth up to $50 million and expects an estimated annual revenue of $75 million by the third quarter. Its Hive-32B model claims superior performance compared to other models like OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.6, though its benchmark results are yet unverified.

The founders of Prentis bring substantial experience in AI and tech entrepreneurship, with Ritankar Das previously founding Titan, an AI holding company that has backed several successful ventures including Tala Health and Forta Health.

As the race for better AI models intensifies, competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI are also working on similar projects. Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn and now focusing on Manas AI, is stepping down from Microsoft’s board to pursue his new venture. Pincus has shifted his focus to investment firm Reinvent Capital.

Prentis currently employs over 25 researchers with backgrounds at top tech firms like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Meta, and Alibaba, suggesting a strong foundation for its ambitious goals in the AI space.
