Google has made switching between password managers on Android devices a breeze, eliminating the need to download CSV files. The new system allows users to seamlessly transition all of their passwords, including passkeys, between apps with just a few taps. To use the feature, users simply open their new password manager app and choose to import or copy passwords from the old app. Android detects the manager apps on the device and coordinates the transfer, giving users the chance to review and approve the information being moved.

The company has already rolled out the feature to select partners, including Bitwarden, 1Password, and Dashlane, with more apps set to join. By supporting passkey transfer, Google is ensuring that users won’t have to set up these security features again when switching. The CSV file risk is also averted, making the process both safer and simpler.

According to Google, the new experience is currently available on all devices running Android 8 or above. While it’s an improvement, SUNI hopes it marks a step towards a future where password managers are as intuitive as setting a PIN.
