OpenAI’s New Security Mode Locks Down ChatGPT Accounts

As AI becomes more personal, so too must our security measures.

For those concerned about their ChatGPT and Codex accounts being targeted by cybercriminals, OpenAI has introduced a new layer of security. Dubbed 'Advanced Account Security,' the feature enforces strict access controls making account takeovers harder.

The enhanced security involves using physical security keys for authentication instead of passwords. It also eliminates traditional recovery methods such as email and SMS texts, requiring users to use recovery keys or backup passkeys for account recovery.

This move is part of OpenAI's broader cybersecurity strategy, reflecting the growing importance of personal data in AI interactions. The company notes that ChatGPT accounts can become central hubs of sensitive information, making them prime targets for attackers.

Crucially, users with Advanced Account Security will have limited interaction with OpenAI’s support team. Any help requests must be handled through alternative means, reducing the risk of social engineering attacks.
