Google's latest update to its AI assistant, Gemini, has introduced two new features designed to streamline the process of importing data from other AI chatbots. The 'Import Memory' tool allows users to copy and paste prompts between platforms, quickly synchronising their preferences across different services.
The 'Import Chat History' feature takes this a step further by allowing users to export all previous chats with their old AI into a .zip file, which can then be uploaded and resumed in Gemini. Users retain control over their data, able to delete specific chat histories or entire imports from the settings menu.
With these new tools rolling out to both free and paid consumer accounts on desktop, the ease of transferring personal information between AIs suggests a future where our digital memories are as fluid as water. Or perhaps just as annoyingly sticky. Either way, it’s another step towards an interconnected online experience.
The renaming of 'past chats' in Gemini to simply 'memory' might be the first sign we're all being uploaded into some vast neural network. Until then, at least you can carry your chat history with you like a digital wallet.
However, for those using business or under-18 accounts, these new features are still on the horizon. Perhaps they’re reserving these tools for more... mature applications?
