Apple will reportedly revamp Siri to include features that automatically delete chat histories after a set period. This move comes as part of Apple's bid to stand out in the AI race by highlighting user privacy.
The new standalone Siri app, supposedly using Google Gemini technology, is set for an unveiling at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference. The app will offer users the ability to choose how long their conversations are stored – or not stored at all after a period of 30 days or one year. However, critics might see this as Apple’s attempt to cover up Siri’s shortcomings compared to its competitors.
While Apple claims that privacy is paramount, the involvement of Google in the backend might raise eyebrows. This could suggest that Apple is leveraging Google's more advanced technology while trying to maintain a facade of self-reliance and privacy.
The strategy of focusing on user privacy as a selling point may also serve as a PR move to divert attention from Siri’s performance issues, hinting at the possibility of lagging capabilities in comparison to rivals like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
