Facebook's Plus Plan: Extra Features for a Fee

Meta’s move towards subscription models mirrors industry trends, but will users pay for perks or privacy concerns?

After months of testing, Meta has rolled out its 'Plus' subscriptions on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. For $3.99 per month, Instagram Plus subscribers can spotlight stories once a week and preview others', while Facebook Plus extends story visibility to 48 hours instead of the usual 24.

WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99 monthly and introduces features like pinning up to 20 additional chats and using premium stickers. These new subscriptions won't replace Meta Verified, a paid verification service that will still be available for users concerned about authenticity online.

In addition, Meta is testing AI-focused plans called 'Meta One Plus' and 'Meta One Premium', which cost $7.99 and $19.99 monthly respectively. These plans offer enhanced usage of Meta AI's image and video generation tools compared to the free version with its usage limits.

For creators and businesses, Meta is rolling out two new subscription plans: 'Meta One Essential' at $14.99 per month includes perks like the Meta Verified badge, while 'Meta One Advanced', priced at $49.99, also offers higher search visibility on Instagram and Facebook.

As tech giants increasingly turn to subscriptions for revenue, it remains to be seen how many users will opt-in for these extra features, especially in light of growing concerns over privacy and data usage.
