Apple has unveiled Siri AI, the much-anticipated upgrade to its digital assistant, promising a more conversational experience. The overhaul comes amid criticism that Apple had lagged in the race for advanced artificial intelligence.
The new version of Siri will integrate across all Apple products and apps, learning from users' interactions and images to provide a more intuitive user experience. Craig Federighi stressed the importance of privacy and personalisation in AI development, asserting that it should serve human needs.
Apple also announced changes to its trust and safety features, expanding parental controls and automatically censoring inappropriate content on children's devices. However, this has faced criticism from child safety advocates who argue Apple is not doing enough to protect young users.
The announcements were made at WWDC 2026, coinciding with Tim Cook’s last keynote as CEO, marking the end of a 15-year tenure. John Ternus will take over, but his debut was kept under wraps during the main event.
