A new report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue reveals that mainstream social media platforms like YouTube and X are inadvertently driving traffic to 'nudify' apps, despite strict policies against nonconsensual content.
According to ISD, these platforms refer users to millions of visits to nudify sites, often through searches for terms like ‘undress app’. This raises questions about the enforcement of existing policies and the role of social media in spreading such tools.
The study also highlights the accessibility and profitability of these apps, targeting ex-partners and even relatives. The motivations go beyond sexual interests, sometimes aiming to harm careers and lives.
While legislation like Minnesota’s ban on nudification apps is a step forward, the apps continue to spread and become more accessible. This calls for coordinated responses from platforms and educational efforts in schools.
