Twitch Creators Can Now Opt Out of AI Training

But how long have they been used without their knowledge?

Twitch has updated its account settings to allow streamers to opt out of having their content used to help train the artificial intelligence models of Twitch’s parent company, Amazon. Although this move has reassured some creators, it remains unclear when and how widely the streaming platform began utilizing user-generated content for AI training.

The new option can be found in Security and Privacy settings on both the website and mobile app. However, disabling this does not prevent Twitch and Amazon from using your content for other purposes as described in Twitch’s Privacy Notice, including AI-powered features to aid streamers' growth and monetization.

Creator backlash suggests that many were unaware of their data being used by default. In a forum dedicated to the topic, over 16,000 creators expressed opposition to this practice, which only came to light after the update to the settings.

Twitch's executives acknowledged that keeping content use for AI training enabled by default was necessary as 'no one would participate' otherwise. This has sparked new questions about transparency and the broader implications of using user-generated data for model training across tech giants like Meta, Google and YouTube.
