Apple’s Camera-Chequed Earbuds

Are we all about to see our surroundings through AI-tinted lenses, or just our poor privacy?

We may have caught a glimpse of Apple's rumored camera-equipped AirPods in a video found within the latest macOS beta. The clip shows a man using his newfangled earbuds to hold up a book so that Visual Intelligence can read and save its title.

According to Bloomberg, these AirPods will use visual intelligence to capture low-resolution images, helping Siri with directions or answering questions about your surroundings. They might look similar to the Pro 3 model but with longer stems for cameras and LED lights indicating data uploads.

This tech could compete with smart glasses like Meta's Ray-Ban, though Apple is reportedly also working on its own pair of glasses. The camera feature isn't designed for photos or videos, but it might still raise privacy concerns.

While the new AirPods are expected to launch alongside an updated Siri in September, details remain sparse. Only time will tell if these earbuds change how we interact with our digital assistants and our world.
