Users can now opt for longer alphanumeric passwords with special characters, making their accounts harder to breach. Passkeys, authenticated through Face ID or fingerprint, provide an extra layer of protection by eliminating reliance on traditional usernames and passwords.

The update comes as messaging apps vie to make security more accessible. With phishing techniques becoming ever more sophisticated, these features aim to keep users' conversations private and secure. Additionally, Android users will see enhanced caller information when receiving calls from unknown numbers, helping them discern the legitimacy of the call source.

These changes follow a series of updates WhatsApp has rolled out recently. The launch of usernames in June allows sharing profiles without revealing phone numbers, while the subscription plan introduced in May offers extra features like profile customization and super reactions. Meanwhile, similar 'Plus' offerings have been made available for Instagram and Facebook.
