A cyberattack on Boston Scientific, a US medical device manufacturer, is causing widespread disruption to its operations. The company confirmed it began experiencing issues with access to IT systems and business applications on Tuesday.
Boston Scientific makes pacemakers and defibrillators, treating up to 48 million patients annually according to their website. The attack has disrupted shipping and order processing but the extent of customer impact is unclear.
Spokesperson Chanel Hastings would not comment further when contacted by TechCrunch. Boston Scientific is investigating the incident with an as-yet-unknown timeline for recovery.
This comes amid a spate of recent cyberattacks on health tech firms including Abbott Laboratories and Medtronic. In January, Stryker faced a similar Iranian-backed hack allowing hackers to wipe devices across its network.
