Apple’s New Chief Unveils Foldable Future

Could Siri rival ChatGPT? Apple’s next big step could revolutionise AI and wearable tech.

John Ternus has officially assumed the role of Apple CEO, succeeding Tim Cook, who held the position for 15 years. Ternus took the helm at an exciting time for the tech giant, with Apple set to launch its first foldable iPhone on September 9. The event is expected to feature a host of new products, including camera-equipped AirPods, smart glasses, and a touchscreen laptop, among others.

In a memo to staff, Ternus expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming launch, stating, “We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal.” He also highlighted the company’s plans to roll out an improved version of Siri, positioning it as a competitor to other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude.

“I take enormous comfort in handing the helm to someone as brilliant and wonderful and capable as John,” Tim Cook wrote to staff in his final message. “Few people understand what it takes to build products that change the world the way John does.” Cook’s departure marks the end of an era, as his long tenure saw significant advancements in Apple’s hardware and software.

The move towards foldable devices and smart wearables signals a significant shift in Apple’s product strategy. With the tech industry increasingly focused on AI and augmented reality, Apple’s new direction could have far-reaching implications for the future of technology and consumer electronics. Whether Siri can match the capabilities of more established chatbots remains to be seen, but Ternus’ optimism is certainly infectious.
