Philips Hue and Nanoleaf Merge Their Light Panels

Philips Hue and Nanoleaf join forces, proving rivals can glow together.

Philips Hue has partnered with Nanoleaf to add modular wall panels to its smart lighting ecosystem. For $39.99, owners of Nanoleaf Hexagon, Triangle, or Mini Triangle panels can now integrate them into the Hue app, enjoying gradient light and smart scene capabilities. However, the integration comes with some limitations, such as temporarily losing access to Nanoleaf's dynamic scenes and music-reactive features.

The collaboration is a testament to the potential for rival companies to coexist in the tech market, with both George Yianni, founder of Philips Hue, and Gimmy Chu, CEO of Nanoleaf, highlighting the clear overlap in their customer bases. Development of a dual-control module is expected in the coming months, allowing more seamless integration between the two systems.

While integration with Nanoleaf's Lines, Blocks, and Elements is yet to be confirmed, the company plans to sell starter kits and extensions on its website. The partnership reflects a long-term vision, with the two companies having worked on the integration for 18 months, prioritizing full Hue functionality over compatibility with Matter standards.
