Volvo is bringing back its plug-in hybrid XC40 with a fresh exterior and a gut-renovated interior featuring Google’s Gemini AI assistant. The new model sports updated ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlights and diamond-cut wheel options, while the cabin’s larger 11.2-inch infotainment screen and improved storage solutions aim to make driving more seamless.
The XC40’s safety suite has been overhauled with new sensors and software, offering real-time collision avoidance and automated emergency steering. These upgrades are part of Volvo’s commitment to safety, even as it scales back its EV-only pledge.
With its hybrid powertrain and robust safety features, the XC40 aims to continue as one of Volvo’s best-selling models. ‘We’ve created the best version of the XC40 yet,’ says Akhil Krishnan, Interim Lead for the 30 and 40 Series at Volvo Cars.
The return of the XC40 PHEV highlights the ongoing balance between traditional and electric vehicles, catering to a range of consumer needs. As hybrid markets become more competitive, this update positions the XC40 to stay relevant.
