Apple is officially stepping into the smart home fray with its new Home Collection, a suite of devices designed to enhance home security and comfort. The range includes a smart deadbolt lock, a video doorbell, a thermostat, a temperature sensor, and a variety of security cameras.
The new smart lock, priced at $349.95, is a standout feature, equipped with ultra-wideband technology. This allows it to recognize authorized users more precisely, potentially reducing the need to fumble for keys or unlock devices. Meanwhile, the $249.95 video doorbell lets homeowners monitor their property from afar, with notifications and chimes alerting them to visitors.
The temperature sensor, priced at $69.95, provides detailed insights into room-by-room conditions, helping users optimize heating and cooling. For added security, Apple has introduced indoor and outdoor cameras, including a floodlight camera priced at $399.95, which combines lighting and video monitoring.
Apple says these products are created in partnership with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, an interesting move for a company that has traditionally developed its own smart home accessories. The devices will become available in December, setting the stage for a competitive battle in the smart home market.
