While the action on the Apple TV app was sharp and smooth during my MLB soccer viewing, the experience took a turn with the NFL game on DirecTV, where the action was just as expected with a 120-Hz refresh rate. The Roku Pro Series OLED's ability to handle fast-paced content, from the cartoonish palette of Cuphead to the vibrant colors of Burnout: Paradise, was impressive, yet it lacked the 'pop' of high-end LG and Sony OLEDs, attributed to its limited brightness.
Smart Picture Max, a notable innovation, automatically adjusts display settings based on the content, providing a motion-smoothing feature that can be toggled off for a better viewing experience. However, Dolby Vision content overrides this, leaving motion-smoothing active. The Roku remote and interface contribute to a user-friendly experience, with changes applied instantly.
The audio, though decent at low volumes, becomes harsh at higher volumes, a stark contrast from Roku's previous Pro Series TV. For a budget OLED, the Roku Pro Series offers vivid colors and strong contrast, but it falls short for audiophiles. It's a steal when on sale, but not for those seeking the best of the best.
