Hyundai has unveiled its Ioniq 3, a sleek electric compact hatchback designed for urban efficiency. With a class-leading drag coefficient and a surprisingly spacious interior, the car fills the gap between the Hyundai Inster supermini and the Ioniq 5 crossover.
The Ioniq 3 boasts two battery options: a Standard Range model with a projected range of around 214 miles, and a Long Range version that promises a more competitive 308-mile range. Built on Kia’s EV2 platform, it features Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS.
Despite its impressive tech, the car faces stiff competition in Europe from established players like Volkswagen ID 3 and Volvo EX30. Jose Muñoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, remains optimistic, asserting that innovation will come from a mix of technologies rather than relying solely on one leading edge.
The Ioniq 3 launches in Europe this September at an estimated price of around £25,000. With its smart design and strong brand value, it looks set to play a significant role for Hyundai's future electric vehicle strategy in the crowded European market.
