Yesterday, Yarbo, the company behind robotic lawn mowers, issued a detailed response after a security researcher revealed vulnerabilities that could have dire consequences. The firm acknowledges the flaws and promises to fix them, but questions remain about their commitment.
The security issues include identical root passwords across all devices and easy access points for hackers. Yarbo now says each device will have its own credentials and remote access is limited to internal personnel with user authorization. However, a persistent backdoor remains, which customers may or may not approve of.
Security researcher Andreas Makris has been in direct communication with Yarbo, praising their new security response center but expressing concern over the ongoing presence of a potential backdoor. He says he will check if his access has been removed post-changes.
The company states that these fixes are part of a broader effort to improve system security by phasing out legacy systems and strengthening current ones. First-wave updates are set for next week, but full transparency on the status of all affected devices remains elusive.
