Amazon has unveiled its latest upgrade to Alexa+, allowing users to create podcast episodes with the mere command: 'Alexa, make me a podcast.'
The feature, dubbed ‘Alexa Podcasts’, is rolling out in the US today. Users can request a topic and Alexa+ will research it, generate content, and present an episode ready for consumption within minutes.
Unlike traditional podcast creation, this process requires no scripting or pre-planning. Instead, users can tweak elements like length and tone before AI voices narrate the episode. Episodes are saved in the app’s ‘Music’ section and notifications alert users when new content is available on their Echo Show devices.
The initiative underscores Amazon's ambitions for Alexa+ beyond mere voice assistance. It now positions itself as a tool for content creation, possibly at the expense of traditional creators. However, concerns over accuracy, reliability, and ethics persist in an era where AI-generated voices are becoming commonplace.
