Just ahead of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, Bloomberg has published leaked renders revealing plans for a significant overhaul of Siri. The updates aim to position Siri as a direct competitor to ChatGPT and other AI chatbots.
The new Dynamic Island integration means that Siri responses will now emerge from the iPhone's interactive display area, making them more seamless and accessible for quick voice queries or searches. A new swipe-down gesture will enable users to search not just their phone but also the web through an AI-powered Siri, leveraging Google’s Gemini technology for added intelligence.
Apple's approach involves a strategic partnership with external AI technologies while simultaneously developing its own local AI models. This dual strategy allows Apple to maintain its privacy-focused brand without needing to catch up in terms of AI capabilities. A new standalone Siri app will also be introduced, designed to compete directly with chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini.
With an install base of 2.5 billion devices, compared to ChatGPT's 900 million weekly active users, Apple’s scale presents a significant advantage in introducing AI technology to a broader audience. This move could make iPhones even more central to daily life for those who haven't yet adopted standalone AI tools.
