Evotrex, a two-year-old startup based in Los Angeles, has just raised $30 million to build its first hybrid RVs. The company aims to manufacture and sell around 1,000 units annually, targeting a market that craves off-grid living without the usual electric hookups.
Its approach is unique among competitors like Lightship and Pebble, which are focusing on all-electric travel trailers. Evotrex’s hybrid system uses an onboard gas engine to recharge its battery pack, allowing for extended periods of use in remote locations.
The co-founder Alex Xiao stated that 90% of existing orders were placed for the fully loaded Premium trim of their PG5 model, priced at around $160,000. This suggests a significant demand for an RV that can truly operate off the grid.
Eerotrex plans to test its durability thoroughly over the next year and half, while also preparing for manufacturing in China and final assembly in California. Xiao believes that focusing on the right customers and getting them to evangelize the product could be key to success.
