Porsche has spruced up its top-tier electric sedan for the new model year, but don't expect magic from the Taycan just yet. The latest update sees a standard 105 kWh battery in all versions, allowing you to juice up at a blinding 320 kW with an 800 V DC fast charger.
But there’s a catch: if you want to use all those kilowatts, you’ll need to give up the CCS1 port and opt for a NACS one. This means no more adapters needed when charging at Tesla superchargers, but only a tiny fraction of them can handle the Taycan's power. IONNA’s native NACS chargers offer 400 kW, thankfully, and Porsche will provide an adapter to use with Electrify America and other high-voltage stations.
For those who’ve been waiting for their Taycan to keep up with the times, this is a step in the right direction. However, it’s clear that while Tesla may have set the bar, Porsche still has some catching up to do.
The Taycan has faced a bit of a sales dip since its launch in 2020, but with these improvements, maybe there’s hope for a resurgence. After all, who wouldn’t want their electric car to be as easy to charge as their smartphone?
