Smart lighting company Philips Hue has taken a step towards integrating non-smart lights with its ecosystem by launching wired wall modules. These devices can be installed behind existing switches to control any non-smart light connected to them, allowing users to manage their entire home’s lighting from the Hue app.
While these modules are currently available only in Europe, there is a possibility that they may be released in other regions if enough interest is shown. According to Signify CTO George Yianni, DIY modules are not as established in the US market, where fully integrated switches are more common.
Hue has also released new affordable lamps – the Play Table Lamp and the Play Floor Lamp Large – which offer a lower price point for those wanting to join Hue’s entertainment ecosystem. These lamps can sync with movies, music, and games through the Philips Hue Sync Box or Hue Sync apps.
The company has also upgraded its E14 candle bulbs, offering higher lumen output, a wider white light spectrum (from 1000K to 20,000K) and Chromasync color technology. These bulbs are designed for decorative fixtures such as chandeliers and wall sconces, with the ability to dim down to just 0.2%.
Philips Hue continues its push into whole-home automation, with these new products offering a wider range of options for consumers who want to integrate their lighting systems more seamlessly into their smart home setups.
