Google has expanded its AI Mode, allowing users to seamlessly interact with popular apps like Instacart and Canva directly within the AI’s conversational interface. This new feature enables tasks such as creating a grocery list linked to your Instacart account or generating design ideas on Canva.
The move aims to make daily tasks more efficient, potentially challenging rivals like ChatGPT and Claude which also support app integrations. For example, you can use AI Mode to plan a barbecue by adding ingredients directly to your Instacart cart with just a few commands.
Google is rolling out this update in the U.S., working with various partners to expand supported apps soon. Since its launch earlier this year, AI Mode has been steadily growing in capabilities, from checking local store stock levels to exploring web results side-by-side with more personal insights through Gmail and Google Photos integrations.
The expansion of app integration shows a clear trend towards making digital assistants more integrated into our daily lives. Will we start relying on them for more than just quick searches? Only time will tell as tech giants jostle for dominance in this space.
