Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable lineup, including the top-of-the-line Z Fold 8 Ultra. The device features a 6.5-inch OLED screen that expands into an 8-inch display when opened, perfect for multitasking but not ideal for content consumption. A new thinner flip phone and smartwatches complete the range.
Despite being more expensive due to component shortages, preorders are now available. The Ultra’s form factor is similar to previous tablet-style models, offering a 7.6-inch 4:3 display when unfolded, providing a bit of extra breathing room for widescreen videos and document reading in portrait mode.
The Z Fold 8 Ultra and its wide-body variant are impressively thin at just 4.1 mm and 4.5 mm (unfolded), respectively. The new flip phone and smartwatches also add to Samsung’s growing range of wearables, which could signal a continued shift towards smarter, more integrated tech in our daily lives.
The wide-body design is designed for media over multitasking, making the Z Fold 8 Ultra a potential game-changer. However, with prices pushing past a grand and almost twice that for the Ultra, it remains to be seen if consumers will embrace this new form factor.
