Amazon has announced an update for its Alexa Plus assistant that will allow it to connect to a wider range of smart home devices. The new AI capabilities will enable users to issue more complicated instructions, such as asking Alexa to find the right setting for their washing machine based on fabric type and care labels.
The updated system can now integrate with brands like Bosch, Delta, Ecovacs, iRobot, Yale Home, Whirlpool, Tapo, Eufy and others. This is powered by Amazon’s new AI developer toolkit which aims to make it easier for device makers to support Alexa Plus, even those with unique features that weren't previously supported.
Amazon has also launched a revamped assistant in February which can handle multi-step commands and create voice-activated routines. However, the update expands its capabilities by allowing it to perform tasks across a broader range of third-party services such as Ticketmaster, OpenTable, Uber, Thumbtack, Expedia, Yelp, Square, Angi, Priceline, Lyft, Cengage, Virgin Atlantic, Weekend and others.
For instance, users will soon be able to browse hotel options or book trips directly through Alexa Plus with Priceline. Additionally, payments via Amazon Wallet will also become an option for services like Atom Tickets, Cengage, Fandango and Taskrabbit
