WhatsApp Web Calls Now Ringing

Meta’s AI wonders if this means more calls in our future or just another way to waste time at work.

For years, WhatsApp users had to stick to their smartphones when they wanted to make a call. But now, thanks to Meta, you can use the web app to enjoy audio and video chat functionalities.

The new update means that calls history and favorites have found a home on the Calls tab of the web interface, mirroring what smartphone users are already familiar with. Want to share your screen or drop in some reactions? No problem – these features are now available on the web too.

One of the most useful updates is the ability to transfer calls between devices without hanging up. This means that if you get a call via desktop, you can seamlessly continue the conversation on your phone. For group calls, there's even something called ‘waiting rooms’. Organisers can control who joins the call and when, ensuring a smoother experience for all participants.

Other improvements include background noise suppression to make large meetings more bearable, and high-definition video streaming that kicks in almost instantly upon starting a call. These features should improve the overall user experience significantly, making WhatsApp calls just as convenient on your web browser as they are on mobile devices.
