Apple’s ‘HomePad’ Set for October Launch

Is this AI's entry into smart homes finally here, or another delay in the making?

For years, Apple has been rumored to be developing a home hub device, much like the Google Nest Hub Mini and Amazon Echo Show. Now, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the ‘HomePad’ could see its launch as early as October.

The new smart hub is reported to feature a 7-inch square display, running a brand-new operating system based on Apple's tvOS with grids of icons, widgets and apps reminiscent of iOS and WatchOS. At its core will be a revamped Siri AI, along with video chat, security, and intercom features that communicate with other Apple Home devices.

The device is part of Apple’s larger push into the smart home market, which previously relied on third-party accessories to compete. With enhanced Siri set for release in September 2023, it appears the company may finally feel ready to take on the category head-on. However, a previous Spring 2025 reveal was delayed due to an AI upgrade for Siri.

In addition to the new Home Hub, Apple is preparing its own high-end security camera to compete with Amazon’s Ring system and a new HomePod mini. There are also rumors of a robotic arm with a screen in the works. Gurman suggests it's possible these devices could yet be delayed again, but an announcement between October 2023 and early next year is expected.
