Uber Drones: The Future of Fast Food Delivery?

As Uber partners with Zipline, the sky’s the limit for speedy meals—literally.

Uber is taking flight in its quest to become a multi-faceted delivery giant. Partnering with drone company Zipline, they aim to make one million deliveries per day by 2029.

The first drones will begin delivering on the Uber Eats platform later this year, starting where Zipline already operates and expanding into dozens of U.S. cities. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi believes that quick commerce is a burgeoning market beyond just food delivery.

Uber’s strategy of partnering with various companies mirrors its approach to autonomous vehicles—bring in as many players as possible onto their platform. However, this method isn’t without its challenges; the company recently faced conflicts with partners like Waymo over autonomous vehicle regulation.

Zipline, based in San Francisco, has just raised $800 million and now values itself at $7.6 billion. Together with Uber, their goal is to revolutionize how we get our goods, making it as simple as sending a text message.
