TP-Link is set to launch its first Wi-Fi 8 router, the Archer 8 Ultra, on September 30th, targeting a specification that’s still in the realm of the theoretical.
Despite the Wi-Fi 8 standard not being finalized, TP-Link’s Archer 8 Ultra boasts 18 internal antennas and delivers up to 19Gbps wireless and 10Gbps wired speeds. The Deco 8 Ultra mesh system follows suit, offering up to 22Gbps wireless and 10Gbps wired connectivity, with a three-pack covering a whopping 9,800 square feet.
While TP-Link hasn’t disclosed pricing, its preorders kick off on September 30th in select regions. The Deco 8 is set for early 2027, with other Wi-Fi 8 products scheduled for release in Q2 of the same year.
The Wi-Fi 7 standard was only finalized in 2024, so TP-Link is clearly aiming to outstrip the competition. Yet, the US ban on foreign-made routers has TP-Link touting its use of US-led hardware and software engineering.
Is this a brave leap into the unknown or just a clever marketing ploy? Only time will tell if Wi-Fi 8 becomes a reality before it’s even certified in 2028.
