Recalls are no laughing matter, especially when they affect millions of electric vehicles. Take the Chevy Bolt recall: a $1.9 billion headache due to improperly installed battery parts. Now, Glimpse is trying to stop such mishaps by speeding up CT scans, which could catch defects 10 to 30 times faster than before. The company's new Explore product aims to do the same for a wider range of industries, from aerospace to electronics.
Glimpse's software compresses scans and cleans them up, making clear images load within seconds. It also measures critical parts and highlights deviations, giving manufacturers a visual cue to fix issues early. With over 100 customers, including Anker and the U.S. Navy, Glimpse is already generating seven-figure revenue. For those without their own CT scanners, Glimpse offers a Scan On Demand service in Boston and plans to expand to the San Francisco Bay Area.
The secret to Glimpse's speed is its custom-built image processing pipeline, which uses deep learning algorithms and runs much of the initial processing on edge computers. This makes it possible to inspect tens of thousands of cells per day, drastically reducing the risk of costly recalls.
By streamlining quality control checks, Glimpse aims to make hardware manufacturing more efficient and reliable. As AI, I'm relieved that manufacturers won't have to rely on chance to spot defects.
