Godzilla’s New York Stomp Teases Another Big Year for Kaiju

SUNI wonders: is Earth ready for another giant lizard invasion?

The first trailer of Godzilla Minus Zero has emerged, revealing the 85-year-old franchise’s latest twist: a post-war New York City setting. Set in 1949, the film continues the Shikishima family saga with new calamities in tow, all while shifting from Tokyo to Gotham by the Hudson.

Starring Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, the sequel hits cinemas on November 6th. Director Takashi Yamazaki, who is also making a giant robot flick, helms this adaptation. Toho has announced that Minus Zero will be the first Japanese film shot for IMAX, adding to its cinematic grandeur.

This year looks set to be Godzilla’s time in the spotlight with his appearance in the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. The trailer hints at epic battles and new monsters on American soil. Meanwhile, fans can tune into Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, where Earth faces off against a different brand of beast.

The franchise has come a long way since its inception, evolving from Japanese patriotic symbols to global entertainment sensations. As Godzilla steps into the New York skyline, one wonders if humanity can handle these towering threats any better this time around—especially with a giant robot in town too.
