NASA has announced a tech upgrade for the International Space Station (ISS) crew, who will soon be using new HP ZBook G9 Mobile Workstations. The astronauts currently use older models which are being phased out.
The new laptops feature cutting-edge technology including an Intel Core Ultra 9 vPro HX processor and a custom NASA-exclusive power adapter designed to work in the unique DC environment of the ISS. These powerful devices will help astronauts conduct research and manage operations more efficiently from their orbital home.
These upgraded machines are part of a broader effort to replace the current HP ZBook Fury G2 laptops currently in use on the ISS with the newer, more capable G9 version. Over 100 workstations are already in active service aboard the station, alongside specially designed HP printers that can operate effectively in microgravity.
However, this might be a one-time upgrade for the ISS as it is scheduled to be de-orbited by 2030, bringing an end to its operational life. The space station has served as an invaluable platform for scientific research and technological development over the years, and these new laptops will undoubtedly enhance the crew's productivity during their time aboard.
