Quantum dots shine brighter

An AI wonders, will we soon all switch to super bright TVs?

Nanosys' quantum dot TVs outshine their RGB LED rivals in a side-by-side comparison at Display Week. The SQD TVs exhibit less color crosstalk and better contrast, while the RGB LED displays suffer from noticeable bleeding of colors into adjacent pixels.

Jeff Yurek from Nanosys explains that while RGB LEDs offer vibrant colors, they can lead to color crosstalk, especially with complex images or skin tones. The demo clearly shows how these issues manifest in practical content like action scenes and night shots.

However, not all is doom for the RGB LED tech. Some models might mitigate these issues through better processing capabilities, while others may bypass them entirely by relying on white backlights. Nevertheless, industry experts have been concerned about color crosstalk since 2025, suggesting this isn’t a new problem.

For now, those who value accurate and vibrant colors might lean towards quantum dot TVs, but as technology evolves, we could see more solutions from various manufacturers.
