During a hot-fire test on Thursday night at Cape Canaveral, Florida, Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket exploded, sending a spectacular display into the night sky. The company's founder Jeff Bezos tweeted that all personnel had been accounted for and reiterated their commitment to rebuilding.
The New Glenn was set to launch 48 satellites destined for Amazon Leo’s internet network in the coming weeks, marking its fourth mission. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman described spaceflight as unforgiving but stressed cooperation during a thorough investigation into the anomaly.
This setback follows another failure earlier this year where the rocket's first stage landed successfully but the upper stage failed to deliver its payload, leading to an FAA investigation that was completed in mid-May. In both incidents, Blue Origin demonstrated resilience and determination to overcome challenges as they continue their journey towards establishing a robust space infrastructure.
